The Committee had before them "Notes on the
Survey of Hong Kong" prepared by Colonel Winterbotham, out-
lining the present unsatisfactory position of topographical and trigonometrical survey in a colonel Winterbotham
6
explained that the data forwarded to this country were
incomplete and inconsistent, and unless steps were taken
very soon the triangulation of Hong Kong was likely to break
down completely. He stated that if complete records of the
original field measurements were made available it might be
possible for the Geographical Section, General Staff, War
Office, to recompute them and adjust the trigonometrical
surveys. Otherwise it was not possible for far office to do
anything in the matter. It was decided to recommend that
Mr. L.C.F.Rees, Lands Commissioner, who is shortly pro-
ceeding on leave, should be asked by telegram through the
Governor to bring with him, if possible, the necessary data.
